A blogger media kit is so important, to make money or work with brands, creating your blogger media kit is as important as starting a blog. Maybe the question is why the heck do I need a media kit as a blogger?

Probably, what’s on your mind is that you are a brand new blogger, you have no audience or subscribers, and you feel you do not need a media kit template yet because you are not a veteran blogger.

Well, I have bad and good news for you, the bad news is that you need to kill that Ideology, and the good news is that you don’t need to have a huge following to have a media kit as a blogger.

What is a media kit for bloggers?

To a Blogger or an Influencer, a media kit is a document that is like a portfolio or a resume that contains your achievements, offers, marketable qualities that a blogger sends to a brand for collaboration, paid job, or partnership.

Your blog media kit is a document usually in the form of graphics stating the why of your blog, your value, your brand worth, and all that makes your brand better in a few words and pages.

If you want to make money from your blog by working with brands and also seek collaborations, a blog media kit is important, you need to get one.

A quick extra tips before we get down to creating a blogger and influencer media kit, you need to protect yourself even if you are freelancer or blogger. You should have your sponsored post or freelance contract ready, because as online business owners suing or getting sued happens all the time.

When Should a New Blogger Create Their Media Kit?

This is the part where we see new bloggers allow impostor syndrome creeps in, the idea of feeling unworthy and not yet a professional.

My friend, you need to create a media kit as soon as your blog starts gaining traction of traffic. I used the word traction because you do not need to have a blog with 100,00 monthly views or followers before you create your media kit.

As soon as your blog starts gaining attention brands interested in the same demographics as your blog will start noticing you and they will come for you requesting your prices and offers, that’s where a blogger media kit comes in handy.

Note: you do not necessarily have to wait for a brand to come work with you before you create a media kit, you should also pitch to a brand you are interested in working with, no matter how small you feel you are.

Your blog media kit should be able to tell your potential client or brand why they need to work with you instead of someone else. It should be able to speak for you, passing out a very concise message on what your brand is all about and how that partnership will benefit them.

What’s Included in a Media Kit for Bloggers

Your Bio/Introduction Section:

The introduction page or bio section of your media kit is important and it should contain a paragraph that covers two different bio’s, a brief description of the blogger and the blog.

Because this section of your media kit will help the brands know the blogger they are about to work with and what the blog is all about.

The Introduction paragraph for your blog should contain a well-written mission statement and target audience.

This section should specify what your blog is about, your goal and mission and target audience. When creating a media kit for your blog, your blog intro page should be a short and precise paragraph.

Example of a blogger Intro section or paragraph in a media kit;

My name is Faith Ola, I’m a digital marketing expert, I help bloggers uncover their purpose and I help new bloggers grow their blog. Also, I create pre-made blogger templates to help bloggers stay productive.

Example of a blog intro paragraph;

Caramel Daily is a lifestyle blog that focuses on teaching the day-to-day woman on how to make DIY self-care product. I create contents that help women maintain better skin and body care routine.

This is a very short and precise introduction and summary of your blog.

Your offers and Pricing:

This section is where you state the different types of services you can offer to your potential clients and should be well listed alongside the price of each service.

Also, if the prices are subjected to bargaining, clearly state it down somewhere.

The blog media kit is like your words recorded in a text format and sent to your client for bargains. How you present your brand in your media kit determines if a potential brand will be moved to do business or collaborate with you.

In the pricing offer section of your blogger media kit, list the services and types of advert banners you offer on your blog with their prices attached to them.

Note; you don’t have to be a pro blogger and as long as your blog gains traction of traffic, state it clearly what you offer and the price for each service.

Example;
Travel and hotel reviews – $500
Product review – $500 and a free product for testing.

Post Categories/Topics and Most Popular Blog Posts:

List the topics and main the main categories your blog covers. Also, add a section about your most popular blog post on each topic if possible. The most popular blog post is not compulsory but this tells your potential client the type of content that will do better on your blog.

#PROTIP; Clearly state your blog topics, add little explanations and add images to each that will be covered.

Testimonial Section:

If you are an influencer, content creator, a coach or you offer service-based products or sell something on your website, adding some testimonials or reviews to your media kit is a great way to show your potential client that you are capable of carrying out that service you are pitching to them.

A testimonial section should be simple, clean, contain a few words and if possible images of those who gave the reviews.

If you are a new blogger, you have no products or service you have rendered yet but,  you want to add something close to a testimonial section to your media kit template, pick out the best comments from your blog posts, especially some that are directed at you.

Example; “Oh Claire I love your tips, they are super easy to implement and are so effective”.

You can add comments like this to your blog media kit but, instead of using testimonial as a heading, add them with the title “what people are saying”.

Another way to get testimonials is from your subscribers in your email list and if you are yet to grow your email list as a newbie, here is a walk-through tutorial on how to build an email list faster.

You can send your email list a survey asking them their biggest challenges, what they think about your product, blog post or newsletters, and be sure to receive at least one of two feedback.

The Previous Brands You have worked with Section:

This section is just like the testimonial page in your blog media kit but it contains a list of brands that have worked with you in the past.

This section helps to boost your value and also gives assurance to your potential client that you can handle the job.

It is a page or column highlighting in your media kit some brands you have worked or partnered with and if you are a newbie, you don’t need to feel intimidated, the testimonial page can serve this purpose.

For you to work with brands, you need to have a media kit, so go right ahead and create a media kit for your blog, purchase any of my blog media kits or grab this free media kit template.

Your testimonial and previous brands I have work with page in your blog media is a page that serves as a proof of your authenticity.

Stats/ Audience Demographics Page:

The Stat page is one of the most important pages in your blogger media kit. It is a page which clearly states your audience demographics I.e the age, location and gender of your visitors, the number of page views you get monthly, the number of unique monthly visitors.

When designing your media kit for your blog or business, you should put down your audience size, how much traffic and page views you had in the last 30-days, your total number of sessions.

The audience demographics sections of your media kit help the brand determine if your audience is right or wrong for your potential brand.

Example; A blog about hair products will have more women within the ages of 22 and 45, and you can’t expect a company that deals on dyes for grey hair to target this audience.

Social Accounts and It’s stats section:

This section of your blog media kit should clearly state the number of followers and engagement you have on your most active social media accounts.

Example; Pinterest username, number of followers (10k followers) with monthly views (1-Million monthly view), because on Pinterest, the number of monthly views is important.

Include in your Influencer or blogger media kit the engagement size of each social media account.

Contact Information section:

Include your contact information such as; your phone number if possible, your email address, and your website URL to your blog media kit, in case your potential client needs to carry out a background check.

Add Images to your blog media kit:

A media kit is boring with just text littered around and note that most brands also receive media kits and pitches from other bloggers and will go with whoever they consider the best.

Therefore, this brings us to the question, why should they pick your blog over others?

Also, your blog media kit should have a nice presentation, and this happens when you have clean photos, simple colours, well-arranged text, and graphics. You can get beautiful free stock photos from these 18 sites for free stock photos.

Also, on Canva, you have access to free and premium photos. Canva is my go-to tool for premium photos when creating designs.

  2. Make a list of brands you want to work with and be specific about your product of interests.
  3. Write down your offer.
  4. Draft out your email you will send with your media kit attached.
You can use this template below to create your offer/email that you will send to the brand you want to pitch to.

#PRO Tips: Things to note when drafting your emails for brand pitching alongside your blog media kit.

Be Honest: When creating your email and media kit, avoid escalating numbers or using false figures.

Be honest but pitch with confidence. Also remember, if any brand refuses to work with because you are a newbie or for some other reasons, there are other brands out there that will be more than willing to have you on their team.

Avoid Putting Yourself Down:

Don’t put yourself down, even if you are a new blogger and you feel you don’t have all it takes yet. Because, most times new bloggers tend to focus on their fears, low numbers when pitching to brands and you see them add things like “I am a newbie, if you will consider, I will be grateful” to their pitching emails.

Example of collaboration pitch email template that should Go with your Media Kit;

Hello, Brand Name,

My name is Lola, I use your product Lin Essential Oil, and it is effective, and greatly helps my skin maintain its glow.

I love how non-sticky it is and will love to share it with my audience which is 90% female, they love the effect of your essential oil on my skin and will love to buy it.

On the blog, The Lola Hive receives over 100,000 page views and 30,000 sessions monthly. My Instagram has an engagement rate of about 4% and receives a minimum of 2000 likes per image.

My audience is keen on getting my reviews or recommendation on which brand’s essential oil they can use on their skin, especially now everyone is at home.

Every other information you need is contained in my media kit attached to this email.

Looking forward to this collaboration.
Thanks,
Lola
